As an artist, I find that its not just my surroundings that inspire me, but the elements around me in my experiences that I draw from. As an artist myself, inspiration is certainly the most key element in the creative process. sometimes its a setting, a texture or even simply an element of an experience the snaps the creative chemistry flowing. I not only pull from my surroundings to whiz-bang the process into gear, but I also need to have certain articles around me, in my immediate setting, to build the artistic pressure needed to move the gauges on my creative tank. I love the texture and aging patinas. I love turning nobs and flipping switches and most of all- I’m elated when can play with old odd things and gadgets from an old world passed.
The Steampunk Style is a movement in science fiction. It is a mixture of the Victorian era’s romantic view of science in literature and elements from the Industrial Revolution in Europe during the 1800s. For us here at the RBL shop, creating the Steampunk style “Due North” Book cover was turn of the century MAGIC! We love the idea of taking gadgets and gizmos to make something come to life that would have never existed before.
